Who We Are:

Created in the imagination of the Holy Spirit, Providence Baptist Church is a Cooperative Baptist Fellowship church in Hendersonville, NC.  A congregation of about 75, we are an open and welcoming community of diverse ages and faith backgrounds.  Silence, simplicity, and holy listening are a valued part of our worship.  Our desire is to be a place of spiritual growth and healing, to follow Christ, and to become his hands and feet in the world, near and far. 

 


What We Are Looking For:

Part-time director who is passionate about making music and appreciates the sacred expression of faith through instruments and song in a congregational setting. A degree in music is preferred but not necessary. Style should include an appreciation for traditional settings of hymns as well as comfort with other diverse styles of music. An appreciation for the role of music in the Christian faith and an openness to utilizing the musical gifts within our congregation and from the wider community. 



Responsibilities of the Music Director

  • Under the direction of the Pastor and with the church accompanist, choose hymns and special music to coordinate with sermon topics and also organize and rehearse ensembles for Sundays and special services throughout the church year.
  • Organize and catalog music for future use.
  • Continually learn about music and the people in the congregation and community in order to plan music and programs appropriate to their needs.
  • Be familiar with and bolster the values of the congregation through music. 


Qualifications:

Music degree desired but not necessary

Sufficient keyboard ability to sight read hymns, liturgy and other pieces of special music. 

Must be comfortable with various musical styles.

Knowledge of worship tradition and a theological understanding of church to select music for worship.



Supervision:

The Music Director serves under the supervision of the Pastor and with an annual performance
review upon contract renewal.
