Lord, Listen to your Children
Lighting the Christ Candle
Chiming the Silence
Just because prayer is the most precious expression of being human,
it needs the constant support and protection of the community
to grow and flower.
(Henri Nouwen)
Call to Worship
Dr. Moody
Loving God, calm the frantic beatings of our hearts,
smooth the wrinkled lines of our brows.
May we be still and open to the holiness of your peace,
and the peace of your holiness.
We come together as your people, unfinished and unsure,
sinners in need of grace…
but also as children of grace ready to sing your praise!
Empower our hearts as we worship this day.
May we worship and go forth to serve in your name.
Invocation and Lord’s Prayer
Dr. Moody
Our Father/Creator, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power and the glory, forever.
Hymn of Praise
God Who Made Us, Christ Who Calls Us
God Who made us, Christ who calls us,
Breath who guides us in the Way,
Hear the humble words we whisper
as we dare to bow and pray.
Live Your Light within and through us,
dawn in us eternal day.
Tell us, as we brave the darkness,
when to speak and what to say.
Give us courage, humble courage.
Give us faith that will not fail.
Give us love with no exceptions.
Through us let Your peace prevail.
God who made us, Christ who calls us,
Breath who guides from deep within:
May our lives of humble praying
end with Heaven’s clear “Amen.”

Time of Reflection
… continuing to learn to pray may help us continue to change
(Bill Leonard)

Call to Generosity
God blesses the gift we bring to be God’s love in many places.
God blesses those who can give these gifts
as well as the people who give them.
God bless the people who also give time, talent, and energy.
Thanks be to God, for the gifts and the givers.

Prayers of the People

Hymn of Going Forth
“I Have Come from the Darkness”

I have come from the darkness to the light of the Lord
I have come from the night to the day.
God has guided my footsteps in the truth of the word;
by God’s love God has shown me the way.

I have come from the darkness to the light,
to the light of redemption from sin.
Oh, my soul will rejoice in God’s might,
for my savior dwells within us.

In the light of God’s presence all temptations depart,
and the shadows of doubt are cast aside.
With the radiance of sunshine God has entered my heart
where God’s spirit of love abides.

Dr. Moody
