The Worship of God
Providence Baptist Church of Hendersonville, NC
All Saints Sunday is a deep remembrance in which we encounter anew the most profound dimension of what it is to be the church. It reminds us of those for whom the battle is over, the victory won, and of our continuing pilgrimage toward God and the heavenly banquet. To give thanks to God for the lives and deaths is to recognize the common bond between the church on earth and the church triumphant in God’s love.November 7, 2021

Call to Worship All Saints Liturgy Rev. Mynatt The saints who still live among us call our attention to God in unexpected ways and at unexpected times. They enable us to see faith and life in new ways. They help us find our way a little, not so much by pointing it out to us, as by the way they themselves walk in the world. And the great cloud of witnesses around us…The saints triumphant in glory–their witness from the past shows us the way to live in belief and hope and strength. So let us lay aside what hinders us and sin that entangles us; and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. Sisters and brothers, saints of God, as we honor the saints who are now walking with us on this journey and as we bear witness to the great multitude that has gone before us, we remember them as those whose legacy teaches us to hold fast to our faith. Let us stand together during this time of remembrance as memorial candles are lit for those among us who have died in the last two years. Then let us join our hearts in a prayer of thanksgiving for those we have called “saints”—whose lives have pointed us toward God.Lighting Memorial Candles Rev. Coulter

All you angels, now bless the Lord; come, you heavens and powers that be, praise the Lord and His majesty: Raise your voices high, praise and magnify, all you works of God, bless the Lord! Hills and mountains, now sing His worth, all you green things that grow on the earth, seas and rivers, you springs and wells, beasts and cattle, you birds and whales: Raise your voices high, praise and magnify, all you works of God, bless the Lord! Come humanity, sing along, sing, you people of God, a song, all His servants, your Lord now bless, join you spirits and souls at rest: Raise your voices high, praise and magnify, all you works of God, bless the Lord! The Proclamation of the Gospel

Time of Reflection Hear that this is an invitation to trust our lives to God and not be anxious about our lives, but pursue God’s claim on our lives and strive to embody God’s will. –J. Clinton McCann, Jr.

Mynatt May our trust led us to obedience, and our obedience to giving of our resources, but mainly of all the “stuff” and will of our lives. May our gifts, given to the glory of God, become hope and light for this world. –Peggy Haymes Prayer of Dedication and Prayers of the People Rev. Mynatt Hymn of Going Forth Would You Bless Our Homes and Families NETTLETON Would You bless our homes and families, source of life who calls us here; in our world of stress and tension teach us love that conquers fear. Help us learn to love each other with a love, that constant stays; teach us when we face our troubles, love’s expressed in many ways. From the homes in which we’re nurtured, with the love that shapes us there, teach us, God, to claim as family every one whose life we share. And through all that life may offer, may we in Your love remain; may the love we share in families be alive to praise Your name. Let us reach beyond the boundaries of our daily thought and care ‘til the family You have chosen spills its love out everywhere. Help us learn to love each other with a love that constant stays; teach us when we face our troubles, love’s expressed in many ways.
