Providence and the hurricane: Like most families, organizations, and businesses in the mountains, Providence has struggled to cope with the hurricane. We suffered only minimal chaos: standing water in both buildings, trees down on the church campus, and no power for 11 days. These inconveniences hardly compare to the absolute destruction and death suffered by many elsewhere in western North Carolina. We had no worship services for two Sunday even while we maintained the World Meal on Sunday evenings. The 75 or so households connected in some way with our church (most of these local or regional) suffered no death and very little damage. Some had to relocate out of state during the days or weeks without power. But the Lord has given us direction and desire to continue our congregational life as we are able.
