Providence

Providence is a small, warm-hearted congregation in the progressive baptist tradition. We come from various spiritual backgrounds and, for some, none at all. We have just celebrated 23 years of worship and ministry “through the imagination of the Holy Spirit.” as we frequently say. We are looking to God to inspire us anew to make waves of welcome and wonder for the people of Hendersonville, North Carolina. We are an open and affirming congregation. Along the way, we will sing for joy and live with hope, centered in Jesus Christ, the Risen Lord.

Our leadership includes Dr. Dwight A. Moody, pastor, Rev. Marcy Mynatt, associate pastor, Mr. Michael Sebastian, Music Director, and Francisco Gonzolas, Flourish Director. We gather for traditional worship each Sunday at 10:30 and for contemporary worship each third Wednesday at 7:00 pm. Both services are live-streamed to YouTube and the home page of this website. We serve a hot meal to those in need each Sunday afternoon at 4:00.  Elsewhere on this website are the various other activities of the church.

Imagination Station was a regular gathering of people of Providence congregation during the summer and fall of 2021 to assess our situation, reflect upon our past, and imagine our future. The Station (as we call it) was led by Dr. Dwight A. Moody who is now our pastor.

The Station conversation led to our current congregational theme, SING FOR JOY, LIVE WITH HOPE. Inspired by this, we have begun using the organ again and launched a Facebook LIVE broadcast.  Also, we moved our Sunday Worship Meal (for food insecure people in the community) back into the Providence House. We have just approved purchase and installation of real, state-of-the-art video equipment so as to enhance our Sunday broadcast.

We also adopted Imagination, beginning in 2022, as a title to our efforts to renew our congregation following some stressful times (including the COVID). In 2023, we adopted a new, comprehensive policy of inclusion, celebrated a high attendance day (with 59 people filling the sanctuary), received an estate gift of more than $53,000, and hosted several concerts.

We are looking forward to what God is going to do in and through Providence this year! We welcome you to be a part of it.
